We thought we'd got away with it this winter!! After the winter of 2010/2011 we all thought the same would happen this year and I made a promise to myself that we would buy clever and order lots of salt (as well as spreading equipment, shovels etc) before winter started. September was generally just mild and rainy, as was October. November came along, that was pretty much the same! Not wanting to splash money around, it was looking like the winter we were dreading was not going to happen. Get through December without a problem and then half way through January and that was it, salt would be a waste of money, not to mention the expnsive spreading equipment. I even started to feel sorry for some companies we deal with who had invested quite heavily in case heavy snow came! Well, Im pretty good at tempting fate and it has a habit of slapping me in the face while wearing a wide smile!! To stop my babbling, we all know the outcome.......
Just to say, this was not our kit but belongs to a customer of ours who, being responsible for keeping 17 miles of private roads open, cant afford to play with fate in the same way as me! Im happy to say we helped them get 9 tonnes of salt down before the heavy stuff landed!
Hey Mark,
I like your blog lad. And as for fate...well its sod's law, you could have bought loads of the stuff and we'd have probably got a heat wave So sod it.Glad to see you could help out spreading but spring won't be long now.
